Growing up a latina woman in the liberal north I have taken in so many images of maidens fair, waifish figures in repose, and damsels in distress. From the halls of museums, the pages of magazines to prime time t.v., I grew up with an undifferentiated definition of what beauty was. I did not see the woman I would come to be or the friends who have stood by my side in life represented.
As a female artist of color I seek to give a more accurate representation of women of color in art. Influenced by the strong collection of women in my life I aim to create work that showcases the diverse power and beauty of women.
Working out of my home studio in South Minneapolis I create vibrant portraits using the rich color pallet of my life to create figures of womanhood, molding the paint to create an inclusive image of contemporary beauty. My work has been featured in galleries across the country as a part of the Amplifier Foundations Hear Our Voice National Gallery Tour, in local shows and art sales at Betty Danger’s Country Club and ColorWheel Gallery and at the Minnesota State Fair Cream of the Crop Artist Gallery.
